Most Popular Shows of 2024
Without a doubt, 2024 delivered on some of the most anticipated Hollywood blockbusters we’ve seen in a long time. From animated movies like Moana 2 and Broadway remakes like Wicked, this year offered some tough competition for films vying for top spots. However, audiences worldwide favoured action and superhero films as their favourites of the year.
According to the largest film and TV show database online, IMDB Worldwide, the top spot for the most popular movie of 2024 goes to Deadpool and Wolverine.
“Topping the list of most popular movies is the long-awaited Deadpool & Wolverine, which brought together Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as two of Marvel’s most beloved characters. With a worldwide gross of $1.3 billion, the film passed Joker as the highest-grossing R-rated film in history, giving Disney a much-needed hit from Marvel Studios,” stated IMDB’s article releasing the top movies and TV shows of 2024.
According to IMDB, the movies on its list ranked highest on the IMDBPro Moviemeter chart throughout the year. The IMDBPro Moviemeter is based on page views “of the more than 250 million monthly visitors to IMDB worldwide.”
The second and third spots went to Warner Bros with movies Dune: Part Two and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The following are the top ten movies of 2024, according to IMDB:
1. Deadpool and Wolverine
The top spot for the most popular movie of 2024 went to the iconic and hilarious superhero duo Deadpool and Wolverine. In this next chapter of the Deadpool saga, the edgy and hilarious superhero is recruited by the Time Variance Authority to safeguard the multiverse. He is united with Wolverine, and they must learn to work together while saving the world from detrimental threats. Starring Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Leslie Uggams, Channing Tatum.

2. Dune: Part Two
Sequel to the 2021 Dune, the movie is an adoption of the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. The film follows Paul Atreides as he unites with the Fremen people to seek revenge on those who destroyed his family. On this quest for vengeance, he is forced to make an impossible choice. Starring Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Lea Seydoux.

3. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
The fifth instalment in the Mad Max franchise, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, is both a spinoff prequel for Mad Max: Fury Road and an origin story for the Fury Road character Furiosa. It is set several years before the events of Fury Road and follows Curiosa’s life from being kidnapped to ascending the ranks of Imperator. Starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, Charlee Fraser.

4. Joker: Folie a Deux
This sequel to the hit 2019 Joker movie, Joker: Folie a Deux, is a twisting and mind-bending look into Joker’s mind as it ascends into madness. Arthur Fleck, aka Joker, struggles with his dual identity while incarcerated at Arkham State Hospital. During his stay, he stumbles on the love of his life and the music within. Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, Harry Lawtey.

5. Alien: Romulus
The next instalment in the Alien franchise, Alien: Romulus, focuses on a group of space colonizers who come face to face with a terrifying creature of the universe while also trying to survive in the far reaches of space. Starring Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, Aileen Wu.

6. The Substance
After being dealt a career-ending blow by her boss on her 50th birthday, an aerobics performer is given a second chance at life in the form of a substance created by a lab. The substance promises to transform her into an enhanced version of herself. But at what cost? Starring Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley, Dennis Quaid.

7. Civil War
What would a modern day Civil War in the United States look like? Civil War tries to answer this question through the eyes of photojournalists. The movie follows a group of journalists travelling through the war-torn United States to capture the million-dollar shot in Washington D.C. Starring Kirsten Dunst, Cailee Spaeny, Jesse Clemons, Wagner Moura.

8. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
The cult classic Beetlejuice of the 1980s finally gets a sequel. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is set more than three decades after the original film. It follows Lydia Deetz as an adult and mother who juggles a devastating loss while also haunted by Beetlejuice. Starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega.

9. Kingdom of the Planet of Apes
The fourth instalment in the Planet of the Apes reboot film series, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, shows earth many years after the death of Caesar. Apes have now become the dominant species on on the planet, while surviving humans have become feral. As the story unravels, audiences follow the journey of a young ape who goes on an odyssey that will change the course of the future for apes and humans alike. Starring Freya Allan, Devin Durand, Owen Teague.

10. Longlegs
This horror crime film follows an FBI agent who is looking for a serial killer in the 1990s. The chase to uncover this killer takes agent Lee Parker down the path of the occult and an unexpected personal connection to the killer himself. Starring Maika Monroe, Kiernan Shipka, Nicholas Cage.
