Most Popular 2024 Shows
The internet’s most prominent movie database has spoken. With the close of 2024, IMDB recently revealed the most popular TV Shows of the year.
“Based on the actual page views of 250 million monthly visitors worldwide, IMDb’s authoritative lists reflect the films and series that fans couldn’t stop talking about this year. And despite critical chatter about Hollywood’s rinse-and-repeat habits, entertainment fans can’t seem to get enough of the sequels, prequels, reboots, and spinoffs that studios are dishing out,” states IMDB.
The shows on this year’s list, according to IMDB, released new episodes in 2024 and consistently ranked highest on the IMDB Pro weekly rankings throughout the year. This year’s top shows included a mix of new seasons of old favourites and shows that are brand new to the small screen. Genres touch on mystery, fantasy, and romance.
Claiming this year’s top spot is the fourth season of the critically acclaimed True Detective. Coming in at a close number two is season four of the edgy superhero show The Boys. Rounding out the top three is HBO’s The Penguin, a gritty miniseries based on the DC Comics.

1. True Detective
Claiming the top spot of 2024’s shows is season four of True Detective. This heart-stopping mystery crime show is set this season in the frozen wilderness of Alaska. Jodie Foster leads the charge as a detective investigating the disappearance of eight men at a remote research station. The show is sure to deliver on eerie vibes, mind-twisting clues, and dark storytelling that has you questioning everything right until the end. 2. The Boys
The no-rules world of The Boys takes the chaos to a new level in season four. Coming in at number two, the show continues to follow Homelander as he becomes increasingly unhinged as the war between the super and underground resistance reaches its peak. The unique plot, coupled with its typical dark humour, lends no surprises as to why this show claims the second spot. Starring Antony Starr, Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty.

3. The Penguin
HBO’s miniseries, The Penguin, is a gritty spinoff and instant fan favourite of Batman devotees. The gritty show follows the story of Gotham’s ruthless gangster, Oswald Cobblepot, also known as The Penguin, as he climbs to power to reign as king of all things corruption and crime. Starring Colin Farrell, Cristin Militia, Theo Rossi, Mark Strong.

4. Fallout
Based on the hit video game series, Fallout is a post-apocalyptic adventure series. Survivors of a nuclear war navigate the newly destroyed world and must learn to navigate a new world full of strange creatures, unfamiliar technology and a world of secrets. 5. House of Dragon
The much anticipated second season of House of Dragon delivers on the action and intrigue that fans have been waiting for. The war for the Iron Throne continues as the Targaryen civil war rages on. Laced with betrayal, bloodshed and dragons, this epic spinoff to Game of Thrones is second to none. Starring Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Olivia Cook.

6. Shogun
Disney’s new historical drama series is a samurai epic set in feudal Japan. The show follows an English sailor who, after being shipwrecked in a foreign country, is drawn to a deadly game of power and honour between samurai lords. Starring Hiroyuki Sanada, Cosmo Jarvis, Anna Sawai.

7. Bridgerton
The Netflix regency romance show that swept the world off its feet returned in 2024 with a third season. Season three followed the story of the shy but powerful Penelope Featherington as she looks to finally find love with her longtime secret crush, Colin Bridgerton. 8. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
