CAF Personnel Deliver Medical Supplies to India

Canada is answering the call for help in response to the recent outbreak of COVID-19 in South Asia India by delivering medical aid related to COVID-19 to India.

A Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) CC-150 Polaris aircraft and aircrew left Trenton, Ontario, for the first flight of the mission on May 5, 2021, and arrived in India on May 8, 2021, as part of Operation GLOBE.

In the information provided by Captain Alexia Croizer, Public Affairs Officer – Expeditionary Operations, Canadian Joint Operations Command (CJOC), Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) stated, “the medical supplies on board the RCAF aircraft included the antiviral Veklury (Remdesivir), as well as 50 ventilators both provided by Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).”

The information explained further, “A second flight to India to transport additional medical supplies (300 ventilators) departed today from Trenton. The CAF has the unique ability to rapidly deploy anywhere in the world to deliver humanitarian assistance to countries in need and is well suited for these types of tasks.”

As stated on the Government of Canada website, sometimes CAF members are asked to assist other Government of Canada departments with different tasks or to participate in Government of Canada activities abroad.

If the tasks require work outside of Canada, CAF members typically deploy under Operation GLOBE.

The CAF’s commitment to active engagement abroad is showcased in the deployments under Operation GLOBE.

These deployments enable CAF members to work with people from other government departments, as well as other nations.
