Spiderman, Witches and Pirates Oh My!

If the goblins in your house are set to hit the streets for an evening of howling fun as Spiderman, a witch, or a pirate, they will be decked out in this year’s most search costumes.

According to DIYS.com, Spiderman, witches, and pirates are the most popular Halloween costumes in the world’s wealthiest countries. It’s no surprise that Spiderman is by far the most popular of the three and is the most searched costume in 17 countries.

Halloween is a beloved holiday in much of the western world. The most searched-for costumes on DIY.com are unsurprisingly in the country that originated the holiday: the United States.

“By far, the most popular costume across the world is Spiderman. The Marvel superhero is the most-searched-for costume in a whopping 17 countries. The American-made characters’ popularity is spread across multiple continents topping the list in Asia, Europe, Africa, and of course North America,” stated a DIYS.com press release.

Pirates are the second-most searched and top the charts in countries like Australia and Norway, while witches are most loved in the Netherlands, Argentina, and Peru.

Witches are the third most popular costume preferred by residents in the Netherlands, Argentina, and Peru.

A Loved Holiday

Halloween is a beloved holiday in much of the western world. The most searched-for costumes on DIY.com are unsurprisingly in the country that originated the holiday: the United States. The total number of searches for Halloween costumes is 716,900 in the U.S. In second place is the United Kingdom with 121,120 searches and then Mexico with 102,350.

Top Tips

According to DIYS.com experts, there are three important things to consider when shopping for Halloween costumes.

If you’re purchasing a costume online: “Always read the description before purchasing. Most retailers will use a photo of the model in the item for sale plus a few extras. Make sure you know exactly what is included, so you’re not left with half a costume when the time comes.”

If you’re making a costume: “Get started early. You never know when you might run into problems, so give yourself plenty of time to fix them.”

When deciding on a costume: “Always keep the occasion in mind. If you’re choosing a costume for trick or treating, you’ll need some insulation. If you’re going to a house party, you’ll need to be able to sit down in your costume.”
