On a chilly spring day in April 2018, Shania Twain visited CFB Esquimalt to thank the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces for the work they do defending the country.
In a quote from the CDR, (Canada’s Defence Magazine), Twain explained the inspiration behind the song.
“I wrote this song about the heartbreak of saying a sad goodbye to a loved-one that is heading off, and with the feeling of never being certain they would ever return, so that left a deep sadness in me, and I wrote the song with the sentiment of the soldier, knowing that the soldiers are out there often feeling very alone, because obviously being very far from home and loved ones,” Twain explained.
Today, like every day, we remember.
