Go Transit Offers Free Travel for Veterans and CAF Personnel

In a groundbreaking move, Metrolinx is expanding its support for Veterans and Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members by offering free travel on GO Transit year-round, beginning March 1, 2025.

With plans to extend this benefit to UP Express in the near future, Metrolinx is making it easier than ever for those who serve to get around the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas.

“This year, Metrolinx is proud to additionally announce that Veterans and active Regular and Reserve members of the CAF across the region can travel for free year-round on GO Transit,” stated a press release from the company.

Expanding on Established Programs

The decision builds on Metrolinx’s annual Remembrance Day complimentary rides. Each year, in honour of Veterans’ Week, Metrolinx offers rides to Veterans and CAF members.

Announced in November during Remembrance Week, Metrolinx noted, “As Remembrance Day approaches, and in honour of Veterans’ Week, Metrolinx recognizes the sacrifice Veterans and Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members (Regular and Reserve) have made to serve this country.”

The GO Train has a network of routes that extend from the city of Toronto to nearby regions and serves key areas such as Oshawa, Hamilton, Kitchener, and Barrie. About the GO Train

The GO Train has a network of routes that extend from the city of Toronto to nearby regions and serves key areas such as Oshawa, Hamilton, Kitchener, and Barrie. Some of its most popular routes include the Lakeshore East and West lines, which connect downtown Toronto to waterfront communities and suburbs, as well as the Milton, Richmond Hill, and Barrie lines.

For many travellers outside of Toronto, it’s a convenient way to travel into the city without the hassle of bringing your car into Toronto.
