Canadian Military Colleges are currently on the lookout for “highly motivated” military personnel to apply for one of several currently open leadership positions.
The current open positions include Division Commanders, Squadron Commanders, Squadron 2 I/CS and Indigenous Leadership Opportunity Year Leadership positions.
“The Canadian Military Colleges are seeking highly motivated, mentally resilient and physically fit applicants who want to be at the forefront of developing the next generation of Canadian Armed Forces Leaders,” states CANFORGEN 012/25, announcing the call for applications.
The CANFORGEN goes on to say that because these positions are demanding, “motivation, integrity and maturity are essential.”
Those interested are advised to reach out to their Career Managers through their Chain of Command.

Requirements
Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members looking to apply for one of the Military Colleges positions are requested to have strong leadership skills and work well in teams.
General requirements are as follows:
- Component: Regular Forces
- MOSID: Any
- Must have reached their Operational Functional Point in occupation
- Rank Sgts/PO2 to WO/PO1 and Capt/LT(N) to Maj/LCdr
- Medical: Hold a valid medical category and meet minimum medical standards specified for the employment. Members who have been assigned a Temporary Medical Category will be assessed individually.
- Hold valid Force Test.
- Be bilingual.
Additionally, those looking to apply cannot be under a remedial measure, which includes a monitoring period.
“For monitoring periods relating to initial counselling and recorded warning expiring before the closing date, the unit must send the correspondence summarizing its conclusion to Deputy Director of Cadets,” reads the CANFORGEN.
In addition, those applying must have sufficient time before retirement age.

Indigenous Leadership Opportunity Year Leadership
The Indigenous Leadership Opportunity Year Leadership (ILOY) is a year-long program geared towards Indigenous candidates. These candidates receive exposure to the CAF and explore further options within the military.
The military is encouraging Indigenous members to apply for ILOY leadership opportunities. However, the CAF will also consider those applicants who have “knowledge of the history and heritage of Indigenous people in Canada.”
