Instructions Released for Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal
Medals created by the provinces to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s 70th anniversary as sovereign have now been approved by the Federal Government for wear by Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members.
The six provinces that created provincial medals to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II include Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan. The criteria and selection process was decided by the provinces, according to a CANFORGEN that announced the approval.
“Members of the CAF, justifiably, took great pride in their association with Her Late Majesty as head of our Armed Forces. The Queen has always taken a keen interest in the CAF and its members. She has also been a stellar example of service to the nation, of dedication and of dignity for over seven decades,” stated the CANFORGEN.
The Order of the Medal
According to the CANFORGEN, some provinces have allocations dedicated to the CAF, working closely with local military authorities to select the most deserving CAF members for this honour.
The CAF has instructed its members that the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal will follow the Alberta Centennial Medal in the Canadian Order of Precedence for Orders, decorations and medals.
“In the event that a person is presented medals by more than one province, only one of the recipient’s choosing shall be worn,” stated the CANFORGEN.
CAF members who receive the award are required to bring a copy of the award certificate so that it can be placed on their personnel file and the medal can be entered in Guardian.
Since these are provincial medals, the CAF is instructing its members that the ribbon will not be available in the CAF supply system and will need to be obtained privately.
