Government announces new infrastructure project at Canadian Forces Base Bagotville

Last week Minister of Defence Harjit S. Sajjan and Member of Parliament Lac-Saint-Jean, Richard Hébert announced an infrastructure project in support of the Air Force Expeditionary Capability (AFEC) program at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Bagotville.

 The AFEC program is improving the Royal Canadian Air Force’s ability to respond rapidly and effectively to assist in domestic and international operations by providing required operational and training support equipment.

 “It is one of our foremost priorities that our personnel have the infrastructure they require to perform the critical tasks we ask of them. This new space and facility will greatly improve personnel’s capacity to continue their invaluable support to our missions – both at home and abroad,” said Sajjan.

 Valued at approximately $126 million, this project includes the construction of a 13,000-m² modern and green multi-purpose facility that will provide 2 Wing with classrooms and administrative spaces to train personnel and more effectively support Royal Canadian Air Force operations.

 It will contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the department’s buildings and non-military vehicles by 40 per cent from 2005 levels by 2030.

 This project will also see the development of a 23,800-m² area to be used for deployment preparation, as well as equipment storage and maintenance.

 “This project is an important investment in CFB Bagotville and the surrounding community. Infrastructure investments like this help provide good, middle-class jobs to the region and ensure our personnel have the modern, environmentally efficient facilities they need,” said Hébert, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Small Business and Export Promotion.

 A Request for Proposals for this project’s design work should be published later this year, with a contract award anticipated by spring 2020.
