Final Economic Increase to be Applied in April

The final installment of the 2023 economic increase is taking effect on April 1, 2024.

The pay increase, announced last year when the Treasury Board of Canada approved a significant raise for non-commissioned members, general service officers, and pilots in the rank of lieutenant colonel and below, will be reflected on the April 15, 2024, pay.

Overall Economic Increase

“In July 2023, the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) pay for non-commissioned members, general service officers (LCol and below), pilots, medical and dental officers saw a compounded increase of 12.03 per cent effective over fiscal years from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2025. Consequently, in April 2024, these Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) personnel will see a pay increase of 2.26 per cent,” said Captian Geneviève Paris, Public Affairs Officer with the Canadian Armed Forces.

Increases over fiscal years 2021 to 2025:

  • Effective April 1, 2021, an economic increase of 1.5 per cent;
  • Effective April 1, 2022, an economic increase of 4.79 per cent;
  • Effective April 1, 2023, an economic increase of 3.0 per cent; and
  • Effective April 1, 2024, an economic increase of 2.26 per cent.

No Lump Sum or Backpay

While there was a lump sum or backpay with the first three economic increases, there will not be one with the April 1, 2024 pay increase.

“There is no lump-sum or backpay associated with this increase,” said Capt. Paris.

The Captain also noted the pay rates for Legal Officers and Colonels/Captains (Navy) and above are subject to a separate Treasury Board process, which is being communicated separately.

On April 1, 2024, the CAF Pay and Allowance web page will be updated to reflect pay raises. Visit the pay here
