Canadian Armed Forces Implement New Ration Recovery Rates
The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) implemented new ration recovery rates, which went into effect on Aug. 1, 2024.
“Food price increases over the past four years continue to have a significant impact on Canadian household budgets. Food inflation has led to increases in ration recovery rates which will take effect on 1 August 2024,” stated CANFORGEN 096/24, which announced the changes.
The monthly deduction rates are overall increased by 6.7 per cent.
Ration Recovery Rates
The following monthly deductions rates went into effect this month, according to the CANFORGEN:
- Full ration strength: $683.76
- Partial Ration Strength: $390.72 (rate based on ten meals per week)
Changes in rates for members were automatically updated within the CCPS.
Members should be aware that they may face retroactive adjustments and need to plan accordingly. The CANFORGEN states that the applicable URS is responsible for ensuring the deductions are initiated.
Rates shall be promulgated in unit routine orders.
Rethinking Food Rations
Because of the recent inflation in food prices, STRAT J4 Food Services will conduct a review of current food service choice and quantity standards and associated resource requirements, stated CANFORGEN. The results of the review will be published in the fall.
“This review will address the current resource challenges to ensure cost-efficient and effective food services support to CAF operational requirements. STRAT J4 Food SVCS remains committed to providing safe, quality, and performance-enhancing food to CAF military members in Canada and abroad,” reads the CANFORGEN.
