Army Commander Announces 2025 Reserve Unit Command Officer and Regimental Sergeant Major Appointments

The Canadian Army rolled into the new year with a number of Canadian Army Reserve Unit Commanding Officer and Regimental Sergeant Major appointments for the 2025 active posting season.

The announcement of the first batch of Canadian Army appointments was made by the Commander of the Canadian Army, Lieutenant-General (LGen.) Michael Wright, who congratulated appointees in CANFORGEN 194/24.

The new appointed Unit Command Team (TM) members were also given detailed instructions on matters of dress. New Instructions

The new appointed Unit Command Team (TM) members were also given detailed instructions on matters of dress. “When appointed to a Unit Command TM, if the member is affiliated to a different corps/regiment, Army Dress Regulations require them to formally join the corps/regiment of the unit they command.

Command Team (TM) members shape fully adopt the uniform of their new corps/regiment without exception, and completely cease wearing the former identity for the duration of the appointment in all orders of dress, except mess dress upon the receipt of this message, unit HRA will update the Guardian with the military affiliation of the new corps/regiment,” reads the CANFORGEN.

New Commanding Officers (CO) or Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSM) are tasked with taking a copy of this message and receive free initial issue of all necessary clothing and accoutrements for their new position.

Points will not be used for the initial issue.

According to the CANFORGEN, the clothing stores are required to arrange for complete tailoring at no expense to the member.

“Once tailoring is complete, the new CO/RSM shall confirm in writing to the BDE COMD that they are ready to assume command,” notes the CANFORGEN.

For those in tactically grouped command teams, Guardian does not allow for dual military affiliations. As such, only one military affiliation and one uniform can be provided at public expense.

Those who are from the same corps but a different regiment have the choice to either permanently retain the regimental affiliation they have worn or return to their previous regimental affiliation. For those returning to their previous regiment, Guardian will reflect this change.

Additionally, the CANFORGEN notes that new Chief Warrant Officers (CWO) change MOSID, at the TLT (level 5 CWO) rank, the member will retain, in Guardian, the military affiliation of their Corps/Regiment.
