No Life Like It: Bring on the Scary Flicks or Maybe Not

Growing up, I loved horror shows. Bring them on. It didn’t matter if it was winter, spring, summer, or even better yet, the frightening season. However, I didn’t watch them at Christmas. December is a feel-good month reserved for movies like The Sound of Music

From my first horror movie Friday the 13th with Michael Myers, to My Deadly Friend, and we can’t forget the Nightmare on Elm Street series, I enjoyed them. But, as I aged, so did the need for the quality of the storyline. I think the last real horror, horror film I watched, on my own accord, and the entire movie in one sitting was with my husband. The movie was Gothika, and it had a few disturbing twists.

While I would not consider them horror films, I enjoyed The Others with Nicole Kidman and The 6th Sense with Bruce Willis. And I can’t forget our family’s annual fall tradition of watching Signs. In our house, it is a childhood right of passage. When you are old enough, you can watch it. We do this on Thanksgiving Weekend when everyone is home.

After I do that – I don’t feel like I need to watch it. So, needless to say, I didn’t fully watch what the British newspaper The Mirror calls “one of the most disturbing movies ever made.” But I did read about it and watched the ending.
