Guardians of the Galaxy is the latest offering from Marvel comics.
In 1988, a young Peter Quill (Pratt) is abducted by space pirates called Ravagers where he grows up with space ruffians and is parented by the Ravanger’s leader, Yondu (Rooker). Peter’s only connection to his past life is his beloved “walkman” and his Mother’s favorite music of the 1970’s.
The adult Peter reminds me of the legendary cinema figure, Indiana Jones. Like Indiana Jones, Peter is a relic raider who also renamed himself a name more to his liking, in this case, Star-Lord. Also, Pratt has the charm of Harrison Ford.
When Peter steals something he should not, he creates a galaxy wide panic and destruction.
Along the way, Peter meets Gamora (Saldana) an orphan turned into a lethal assassin, Drax the Destroyer (Bautista), a man out for revenge, Rocket (Cooper) a genetically altered Racoon and brilliant escape artist and Groot (Diesel) a kind hearted tree man of little words.
The Guardians of the Galaxy are a group of lost souls who come together for the greater good.
This film is exciting, thrilling, funny, sad and highly entertaining. I did not expect to like this film but found it very enjoyable to watch.
I give it 4 out of 5 Kernels and I rate it PG13.
