American candle company supports Canadian military

Former miltary member supporting troops one candle at a time.

Last month Gold Canyon launched a Support Our Troops candle and nobody could be more thrilled than Barb Barrie, retired Canadian Forces member and current Gold Canyon product demonstrator.

“When I opened the summer catalogue to see that a US based company wanted to help our Canadian soldiers here and abroad I was excited,” says Barrie. “I decided right there that my personal goal would be to sell 100 of these candles so I can help in my small way.”

Barrie explains that when people order the Support Our Troops candle they are supporting troops in their own backyard and all over Canada and what better way to give back and receive a great product at the same time.

The yellow candle is scented with Gold Canyon’s popular Warm Welcome scent, a breezy aroma of luscious almond mingled with sugared cherries and hints of delectable cinnamon.

After experiencing a number of changes in her life in 2009, Barrie decided to become a demonstrator for Gold Caynon. “In November 2009 I decided to become a Gold Canyon Candle Demonstrator because I loved their products,” says Barrie. “They are known as The World’s Finest® candles. Their wax is cool burning, it has great burning time and there are over 70 fragrances to choose from.”

The Support Our Troop’s tribute candle was developed to honour our troops serving proudly in the Canadian Forces, but also to salute the strong military families serving as the hearts on the home front everyday. The 16-ounce candle burns between 120 –140 hours and sells for $22, not including taxes or shipping.

Ten percent of the sale of every tribute candle will be donated to the Canadian Forces Personnel & Family Support Services (CFPFSS) , the Support Our Troops Funds in Canada, specifically the Military Families Fund.

CFPFSS’s mission is to enhance the morale and welfare of the military community, thus contributing to the operational readiness and effectiveness of the Canadian Forces. The organization also provides rehabilitation, education and financial assistance in the case of injury or death of a CF member due to service, and assistance to families experiencing urgent, extraordinary financial demands where the ability to provide family necessities is at risk.

During her career, Barrie has served in Manitoba and across Ontario, but she says, “the best was Alert.” After leaving the CF, Barrie went back to school to learn a new career but she was always drawn back to military life. So in July 2009 she became a civilian employee at CFB Borden and last year she moved on to ASU London.
