On Friday, 13 September, Branch 234 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Guelph, welcomed these “ruck marchers” into the branch after yet another grueling march of 40 km. from Georgetown Ont., to raise funds for our homeless Veterans. This organization is very well supported by the Royal Canadian Legion. As they neared the city limits, they were met by the Guelph Police Service, and an Armoured Personnel Carrier, and escorted to the Legion where they were met by many supporters, ‘well-wishers’, and also the Guelph Fire Department. After a much-deserved brief rest, a roast beef dinner was served which was attended by many supporters who were happy to pay for the ‘privilege’ to have dinner with these noble ‘marchers’ who will then sleep in the branch overnight, and then leave early in the morning after having been served a hearty breakfast. Their next stop will be 42 Km. to Lyndon Ont., and then to the Burlington Legion for their final destination. I’m told by our Branch President that the total net proceeds on this day from the meal including donations so far is $17,000.
