CMFMAG TeamVeterans from the Second World War are met with applause as they are brought with distinction to a commemoration ceremony in our favourite photo of the week.
The ceremony, held on June 7, 2024, at the Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery in France, commemorated the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
Over 2,780 Canadian soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Battle of Normandy are laid to rest at the cemetery. The village of Bretteville-sur-Laize received heavy fighting during the war, leaving much of it to be post-war construction.
This June, countries around the world commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a pivotal moment in history that marked the turning point of the Second World War and the largest amphibious operation in military history.
