A flare lights up the night sky over the North Atlantic Ocean in our favourite photo of the week. A member of His Majesty’s Canadian Ship Charlottetown shot off the flare during a practical demonstration, which was part of STEADFAST DEFENDER 24.
The image was captured on Feb. 7 by Pte Brendan Gamache.
STEADFAST DEFENDER 24 has been called NATO’s largest exercise in decades. This exercise encompassed several smaller exercises. It launched on the east coast of Canada and the United States and spread across Northern, Central, and Eastern Europe.
The exercise was three years in the making, and had over 90,000 military personnel training across multiple domains from January to May. All branches of the military, including approximately 1,000 CAF sailors, soldiers, aviators, and special forces members participated in Steadfast Defender.
