The rising mist of the Mediterranean Sea envelopes a member of His Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Charlottetown in our favourite photo of the week.

Pictured here, on June 25, HMCS Charlottetown’s embarked CH-148 Cyclone helicopter OSPREY is conducting wet hoist training. The training occurred during Operation REASSURANCE.

Operation REASSURANCE is the Canadian Armed Forces largest overseas mission. It supports NATO’s efforts to strengthen central and eastern European defences. HMCS Charlottetown deployed on Operation REASSURANCE this summer to join NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2).

The mist is created from the downwash caused by the helicopter’s rotor blades as it disturbs the water surface, creating turbulence.
