International Women’s Day Activities at MFRCs across Canada

Across the country, Military Family Resources Centre’s will be marking International Women’s Day with events tailored to each centre’s demographic. This year’s theme is ‘I Am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights,’ which is aligned with the UN Women’s Generation Equality campaign. You can read more about this year’s theme here.

MFRC Yellowknife

The MFRC in Yellowknife hosted a fitness class in celebration of IWD 2020 on Friday, March 6th. The class took place from 7.30-8.30am, combining athletic movement with powerful music to create a connection.

MFRC Calgary

Calgary MFRC is holding a series of five workshops with Empowerment Inc, titled How to be an Ally for Women. The workshops have been created for women as part of their Yes, You CAN! Empowerment Program. They are being held on Sat, March 14, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. MDT. MFRC Suffield 

The Suffield MFRC staff are celebrating International Women’s Day on Monday, March 9, in their Multi-Purpose Room. 

MFRC Moose Jaw

In celebration of IWD, guest speaker Kelly Banga from Family Service Regina will be leading a discussion at MFRC Moose Jaw on how to build equality everywhere. Everyone in the local area are being encouraged to attend.

MFRC Shilo

The MFRC in Shilo hosted an International Woman’s Day Coffee Break on Friday, March 6, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The event included a guest speaker from the Woman’s Resource Centre and a presentation of the Woman in the Workplace video. A collection box waw also present for clothing donations to the Brandon Woman’s Shelter. No registration is required to attend.

MRFC Portage la Prairie

The MFRC in Portage la Prairie is celebrating IWD 2020 with drinks, food, and some guest speakers. Those wishing to attend the event are encouraged to contact the MFRC as they have 10 FREE tickets to share on a first-come, first-serve basis! 

MFRC Winnipeg

The MFRC in Winnipeg is celebrating IWD 2020 on Saturday, March 7th. Tickets are available at the MFRC. 

MFRC Toronto 

The MFRC in Toronto is hosting the International Women’s Day Heroes Celebration on Wednesday, March 11th, from 5.30 – 8.30 p.m. To register, attendees must visit here. (https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/international-womens-day-at-toronto-mfrc-tickets-95305069027)

MFRC Bagotville

Bagotville MFRC hosted International Women’s Rights Day on March 6th from 8 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. They are also hosting the same event again on March 9th, from 8:00 a.m. till noon and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Coffee and a small gift will be offered at the event.

On International Women’s Day on March 8th, the MFRC ais inviting women from the local community to sign a postcard that will be sent to Ms. Isabelle Charest, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women.

MFRC Halifax

MFRC Greenwood 

On March 6th, MFRC Greenwood hosted an International Women’s Day Panel Discussion. 

MFRC PEI 

For IWD 2020, MFRC PEI will be welcoming Denise Arsenault from Health Within, who will lead an afternoon of guided meditation, chair yoga, and stress techniques to help ground those with busy lives. They will also be welcoming Karen Forrest to do some Angel Readings.

The event itself is free of charge, but spaces are limited. To see if spaces are still available, those wishing to attend must call 902-892-8999. 

MFRC St John 

The MFRC in St John is hosting IWD 2020 in the Rec Room at Avalon Mall on March 8th, from 3:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Military members can purchase tickets for $25/person, extended military for $35/person and civilians for $45/person.
