17 Wing Winnipeg announce their 12th Annual Air Force Run
The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) has announced the date for their 12th annual Air Force Run, bringing together men and women of the RCAF with Canadians. The run signifies a chance for participants to experience the camaraderie within the RCAF, and understand what makes the Air Force unique.
The run is being hosted by 17 Wing Winnipeg, and taking place on May 24th, 2020. Participants of the Air Force Run will have the opportunity to run the half marathon,10km and 5km timed races accredited by the Manitoba Runners’ Association, as well as an untimed family run. The start and end of each run is at the Race Village which will be decorated with a military theme.
Air Force Run Chair, LCol Scott Ash is encouraging the community to register for the event. “In 2020 we are making the Air Force Run even more attractive with a new race route which includes running directly on the runway of the Winnipeg Airport,” explained Ash. “If you are looking for a unique race experience and a chance to meet the men and women of the Royal Canadian Air Force, we invite you to “Come Earn Your Wings” at 17 Wing!”
“Our military theme this year is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, and we are bringing even more aspects of air force life to our participants. This year, our medals will be shaped like wings,” he added. “The Air Force Run is truly a community event and we often see leaders from our own Winnipeg community who participate in the race every year.”
Runners will be able to interact with members of the RCAF, and have the chance to run the flight line of 17 Wing Winnipeg past a variety of aircraft. Shuttles will also be present to take runners back to the flight line.
This year, the event is offering all-in pricing, as well as early bird pricing available to those registering before May 1st, 2020. The event organizer has also created a school team category for this year, to ensure that students can take part together alongside military members.
Participants who finish the run will be receiving a 2020 medal, attached to a reusable lanyard marking the event. Those who participate in the Half Marathon, 10Km, and 5Km runs will also receive a 2020 technical t-shirt, as well as a race bag.
The Air Force Run has donated over $200,000 to the Support Our Troops Fund since the Run’s inception.
