Introduction to Entrepreneurship Workshops being held across the country

Prince’s Trust Canada’s Operation Entrepreneur are holding free one-day ‘Introduction to Entrepreneurship’ workshops this winter in order to aid transitioning military personnel, veterans, and their partners who are considering starting or have already started their own business.

Learn New Skills

“The training involved heavy concepts and lots of thought-provoking conversations. We had a full house of participants,” said Brenda Davidson, program manager, Edmonton Garrison Military Family Resource Centre. “As an observer, it was very rewarding to see that the participants were very engaged in this training. I was thanked several times for the MFRC hosting this opportunity to learn new skills and network with other entrepreneurs.”

The workshops are being held in military communities across the nation. They are conducted by Entrepreneur-in-Residence, supported by educators in business from the local area.

One Day Workshop Entails

The one day workshop is designed to help teach skills such as:

• How military skills can be transferred to business ownership
• How to evaluate business ideas
• Components of business planning like marketing and start-up costs
• How to access free resources online and in your community
• Where to network with other entrepreneurs

The events are open to CAF members, veterans, reservists, and their families. Dress is business casual, and lunch will be provided at the workshops.

The organization noted that a previous attendee of the workshop praised the event saying, “I thought I knew what entrepreneurship meant to me, but this workshop brought new ideas and focus to my plan. The workshop exceeded my expectations.”

While the organization noted another attendee said, “The workshop covered a great deal of information, I wasn’t thinking about.”

Two Sessions

The workshop is split into two sessions. In the morning, attendees are shown ways in which military skills can be transferred towards successful business ownership, as well as the characteristics which make for a strong entrepreneur.

There will be introductions to free local resources that are readily available to help start-ups as well.

The afternoon involves learning fundamental elements of small business ownership, including marketing and cash flow basics.

Prince’s Operation Entrepreneur will be hosting one-day workshops in Esquimalt, BC, Bagotville, Que, and Edmonton AB, during February. To register for the events, visit here.
