Peter MacKay joins Wounded Warriors Canada Board of Directors

Former Canadian Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Minister of National Defence and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Peter MacKay, officially joined the Board of Directors for Wounded Warriors Canada (WWC) on Jan. 27.

“I am thrilled by the opportunity to work with such a constructive and compassionate organization as Wounded Warriors Canada. They provide critical and practical support to our finest citizens – our Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans, First Responders and their families. In an era where much attention is rightly focused on security and its impacts domestically and around the world, properly caring for our Canadian Armed Forces members who protect us and stand in harm’s way is, to me, a moral obligation. I feel honoured to associate myself with the important work of this wonderful organization,” said MacKay.

MacKay will be bringing with him more than twenty years of experience to Wounded Warriors Canada, attained from his different government positions including Minister of Defence from 2007 to 2013.

“This is a very proud day for our organization. Peter brings a wealth of experience to our team and has always had a strong connection to our troops. What’s more, he is eager to help support our expanded mission to support ill and injured First Responders and their families. We look forward to working with Peter and thank him for putting his support behind Wounded Warriors Canada,” stated Richard Martin, Wounded Warriors Canada Board Chairman.

The WWC team believes MacKay’s experiences puts him the unique position of understanding the work WWC does in helping ill and injured soldiers and their families.

“Having spent six years as Minister of Defence, all of which were during our operations in Afghanistan, Peter is intimately aware of Operational Stress Injuries and the challenges faced by our ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans, and their families. As such, he will be a force multiplier for our organization – helping us continue to develop and deliver life-changing and family saving mental health programs across Canada,” said Scott Maxwell, Executive Director of Wounded Warriors Canada.
