Exercise COMMON GROUND II unites more than 1,000 soldiers in Gagetown
Exercise COMMON GROUND II will take place in Gagetown, NB, from November 12th to 18th. More than 1,000 Canadian Army soldiers from across the country will be involved.
This specific exercise fulfills individual course assessment requirements for nine different career courses. It also contributes to the operational readiness of our troops by exposing students and other military personnel to realistic scenarios using acquired skills as well as challenging them to work as a team.
“The Army is, at its most basic level, a team: a team made up of Regular and Reserve members as well as civilians, all working toward the common goals of protecting Canadians and contributing to international peace and security. Exercise COMMON GROUND II is designed to conduct the training that makes those goals a reality,” explained Lieutenant-Colonel Robbin Dove, Commanding Officer, Tactics School.
This exercise will combine computer simulations, classroom, and practical instruction into a single collective setting of combat team operations’ experience.
“As the centre of excellence for Army individual training, the Combat Training Centre plays a critical role in fulfilling the Army’s mandate to generate combat-effective, multi-purpose land forces. The combined arms training that Exercise COMMON GROUND II provides is instrumental to ensuring that mandate is met and, in most cases, exceeded,” said Colonel Craig Aitchison, Commander, Gagetown’s Combat Training Centre.
