METSpouse hoping to increase military spouse registration for next NTE on Nov. 15th

METSpouse is actively working to increase military and veterans’ spouses’ registration to the next National Transition exCHANGE (NTE) event to be held in Ottawa on November 15th.

Part of Canada Company’s efforts to help military members and veterans’ spouses find employment, METSpouse held a workshop to prepare interested spouses to the NTE on Tuesday. In addition, there will be various panels and workshops directed towards spouses at the event next Tuesday.

Director Military Employment Transition Spouse (METSpouse) Program Kerry Wheelehan noted, “Military spouses don’t need to be sugar coated. They need to know what they have to overcome to make it on the job market. The “Meet Your Next Employer” panel on Tuesday morning will aim at doing just that with human resources and talent acquisition representatives offering tips and guidance to spouses on how to improve their careers and job hunting experiences.”

The organization is hoping to connect spouses with the 66 employers, education institution and government agencies that have already confirmed their presence to the next NTE. “This is a unique opportunity for military spouses to connect with military friendly employers that are not only looking for employees in Ottawa, but in some instances across the country. The idea is to empower military women and help them translate their skills into resumes that work for them and for the work force,” Wheelehan adds.

In this spirit, the afternoon panel, “Empowering and Employing Military Spouses” will be moderated by Nora Spinks, CEO of the Vanier Institute of the Family, with key panel members such as Senior US Military Spouse, Mrs. Ellyn Dunford, spouse of General Joseph Dunford, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Mrs. Kerry Vance, spouse of General Jonathan Vance, Canadian Chief of the Defence Staff.

The program director reinforces the fact spouses do not have to be an METSpouse member to participate in this event. The organization will have a boot at the NTE for those interested in getting more information on the initiative. Spouses are however required to register on the website for a matter of statistics. The event is completely free of charge.
