A Day to Work on Transitioning from the Military in Ottawa

Canada Company is organizing the second edition of its National Transition exCHANGE (NTE), in Ottawa, on Tuesday, November 15th. Veterans and military personnel, as well as spouses, are invited to attend the free panels and a job-fair to further their knowledge of the business world and how to best present themselves and their military-acquired skills to Corporate Canada.

The President of Canada Company, Angela Mondou noted  “The idea is for veterans and military members to understand how to best present themselves, what skills would be valuable for businesses outside the military world and understand the value of their skills. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to connect veterans and transitioning members to the 80 military friendly companies that will attend the event.”

The participating businesses have all been certified as military employers with webinars educating them on ranks, responsibilities, and accountabilities of roles in the military as well as an understanding on how they translate to the day-to-day business world.

“We want businesses to step up to the plate and embrace the hiring of this incredible work pool. Veterans are responsible for their own transition and how they best prepare for it, but there is a lot of support out there, and they need to take advantage of it,” added Mondou.

Canada Company invites interested members to prepare for the event by researching their military-acquired skills in job banks and try to translate them to the business world, to write some key questions they would like answers to and to have an understanding of where they would like to go – ideally target three to five employers they would like to meet with.

“If the member is at the point where he or she has a CV ready, a hundred per cent bring that along and hand it in. Those businesses are trained to understand the specifics of military world and the workshops are meant to help bringing this a step further for members,” concluded Mondou.

Veterans and military members interested in learning more about the NTE, its panelist, workshops, schedule and the businesses that will be attending – some of which are national and global employers – can visit the Canada Company website or download the application that was specifically designed for the event.

“We choose Ottawa because statistics have proven that Ottawa is where the largest pool of transitioning members tend to be. The event has nothing to do with location, however, and we formally invite anyone interested to come to the event and help themselves better prepare for a healthy transition from the military world,” insisted the president.

It is possible to register online for the event that is completely free of charge. Veterans and military members can also sign up on Tuesday morning, at the event. To date, there are 250 members registered.
