Over 23,000 took part in this year’s Canada Army Run

More than 23,000 participants ran, walked or rolled through the streets of Ottawa in the Canadian Army’s staple event of the year: the 9th annual Canada Army Run.

“Members of the Canadian Armed Forces make sacrifices every day to keep our country safe whether at home or abroad, and the incredible amount of support we receive from Canadians is quite humbling. On behalf of the Canadian Army and our families, thank you. I look forward to seeing everyone next year to celebrate our 10th anniversary,” said LGen. Paul Wynnyk, Commander Canadian Army.

The 23,000 participants were comprised of Canadian Armed Forces personnel, ill and injured soldiers, and civilians of all ages and abilities.

Distinguished members who took part in the race this year included Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan and LGen. Paul Wynnyk, Commander Canadian Army. Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada; and Mrs. Sharon Johnston were also in attendance.

The first place finishers of each event were:

  • 5K: Alex Berhe, top male finisher, and Katie Phillips, top female finisher
  • 5K ill/injured/disabled: Mohammad Khashan, top male finisher, and Ruth Hurst, top female finisher
  • Half-marathon: Thomas Des Brisay, top male finisher, and Rachel Hannah, top female finisher
