MFRC PEI hosting a virtual information session on scholarships and bursaries

It’s almost time for another batch of graduates to walk out the doors of high school and into college or university in the fall. But with the excitement of starting post secondary education come the worries of how to finance your education. To put your mind at ease, the MFRC PEI will be hosting a virtual information session on May 30 about scholarships and bursaries.

The interactive session will include presentations from four organizations: Support Our Troops, Natasha’s Wood Foundation, who also offers scholarships to first responders; Wounded Warriors and the Royal Canadian Legion PEI.

“So, all of these sessions are from the comfort of our personal computer. The workshop on Monday you will get the inside scoop on scholarships programs, bursaries and funds available for post secondary education. And you can ask the questions, how cool is that,” said Margaret MacKenzie, Virtual Program Coordinator for the PEI MFRC.

Each presenter will have ten minutes to explain to audiences about their specific program. The Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services will discuss their Support Our Troops Scholarship while Wounded Warriors will focus on their newly established Veterans Child Scholarship for children of parents diagnosed with an OSI.

The Royal Canadian Legion PEI Command will present on how to access RCL bursaries.

“It’s [bursaries] are not about your grades or how much money it’s about community services,” explained MacKenzie.

The Legion will discuss how signing up with your local Legion branch can help potential students gain various scholarships and bursaries.

After the presentations, the audience will have a chance to learn further about the scholarships.

“Then there will be an opportunity to have interaction, ask questions so that the participants can find out what these organizations are celebrating and when they’ll be giving their scholarships,” added MacKenzie.

MacKenzie says the forum is open to any adult or youth interested in higher education.

The workshop will be open for 30 participants only, registration for Monday’s event is already at 50 per cent.

“A lot of people don’t register early and they’re going to be disappointed. So thats why I really want to stress please register as soon as you can,” said MacKenzie.

The Scholarship Open Forum Discussion will be held Monday, May 30 at 6:30 p.m. EST.
