Mishall RehmanTaking just five minutes out of your day on Thursday March 10 could save someone’s life. The Treble Victory Group has partnered with MEDCAN to run a one day clinic to identify bone marrow matches for Mark Walden, a veteran of the CAF diagnosed with acute leukemia.
Walden served in the CAF as an infantry officer with the Royal Canadian Regiment and later with 32 Brigade in Toronto. His commitment to serve his country did not end upon his retirement. After hanging up the uniform, Walden co-founded the Treble Victory Group, a network of former military leaders working to support veterans in the workplace.
He is described as “… has exemplified the servant leader ethos, and has consistently and selflessly given back to his community.”
In January, Walden was diagnosed with acute leukemia and is undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. Once this treatment is complete, he will need a bone marrow transfer.
The one day clinic will conduct swab tests to identify possible bone marrow matches of people between the ages of 18 and 35. The test is said to be simple, not taking more than ten minutes, and nurses and administrative staff will be on hand.
The MEDCAN one day clinic will be held Thursday, March 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the MEDCAN office in Toronto at 150 York Street.
