Former pilot running for the NDP
Richard Banigan, the NDP candidate for the riding of Simcoe North, an aviation enthusiast served four years in the 1960s as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force.
After serving for the Armed Forces, Banigan was an inactive reserve.
However, his career as a pilot stayed an integral part of him and in 1997 he co-founded the Toronto Aerospace Museum and served as its director for twelve years.
Also after retiring from the RCAF, Banigan decided to pursue higher education and first received his Bacehlor’s from York University in 1968 and then his Masters of Education from UT in 1986.
Banigan was inspired to run for office as a member of the NDP believing the Party has the best platform to serve the people.
“I still like the idea of serving my country and feel that I could do a good job in Ottawa. The NDP has the best platform for investing in people and preserving the environment,” said Banigan.
Banigan is proud father of four children and grandparents to eight.
