Support Our Troops presents seven scholarships
This fall, seven lucky students will be the first recipients of the Support our Troops Scholarship delivered by Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services (CFMWS).
Eligible to all dependents of currently serving members and veterans, the scholarships will be awarded annually. Students receiving a full-time scholarship will be allotted $10,000 over the course of a four-year program with the part-time student scholarship recipients receiving $5,000 over the course of their programs up to a maximum of six years.
Students applying for the scholarships need to submit a letter of recommendation and a 500-word essay describing the significance of military life and the importance of a scholarship to them.
The program receives support from many private partners.
“We have supported a number of external scholarships for years, but there were some gaps in the eligibility. We also receive tremendous support from individual donors and corporate partners like BMO Bank of Montreal to support the education of our Canadian Forces Families,” said Jo-Anne MacDonald Director of Strategic Outreach and Initiatives at CFMWS.
The selection of this year’s recipients was made in early August. The names of these students have not been released yet.
Many other organizations provide scholarships and bursaries for children of military members. Some of these include Canada Company, Veterans Affairs, and The Canadian Hero Fund Scholarship. A complete list is on the Support Our Troops website.
