Summer is Better With PSP

With just under a month left of summer vacation, military families looking for inexpensive and engaging activities can turn to their local Personnel Support Programs (PSP).

PSP staff offer great recreational ideas and have the equipment to make them happen all summer long.

“Join one of our boating and sailing clubs. Take a Learn to Canoe course or drop by the gym to loan the equipment you need to explore your local rivers and lakes,” said Ryan Cane, Personnel Support Programs, Ottawa.

Recreation provides the opportunity for personal growth and improved health for everyone.

PSP personnel are committed to providing individuals, families and communities with quality leisure experiences, innovative programming and recreational facilities that meet their needs.

Each Wing, Garrison, and Station provide different variations of activities for PSP customers to try. Military families just need to visit their local gym or PSP facility to determine exactly what is offered.

PSP offers everything from arts to aquatics, basketball to bocce, dance to decorating, first-aid to fitness, golf to gardening, painting to pilates, sports camps to school break programs, and tennis to Tai Chi.

Adults and kids can also take advantage of inexpensive or free equipment rentals. PSP staff make it easy to borrow a tennis racket, learn to skateboard, take up horseback riding, rent a canoe or try out a kayak.

“In CAF communities the PSP Recreation Program provides access to a wide variety of structured and unstructured ways to be physically active on the water,” said Cane.

Some of the special interest summer activities across the country include marinas and sailing, campgrounds and cabins, golf, rod and gun clubs, and stables.

The PSP operate with an underlying principle in mind; the customer comes first.

Staff work hard to ensure their customers, the CAF Regular and Reserve Force members, retired and former CAF personnel, military families, Department of National Defence employees and NPF employees, receive the programs, services and activities they deserve.

According to the CAF website, the overall vision of the PSP is to enhance the morale and welfare of the military community, thus contributing to the operational readiness and effectiveness of the CAF by managing and delivering high quality housing, mess, health promotion, physical fitness, sports, and recreation programs.
