$20 Million Dollar Boost for Garrison Petawawa

In the future, Garrison Petawawa will be able to improve and expand critical infrastructure for the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members and their families, and help create local jobs.

Julian Fantino, Associate National Defence Minister, joined by Cheryl Gallant, Member of Parliament for Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke, today announced a significant $20 million dollar investment for the base.

“Our government is committed to making sure that those who bravely serve our country have access to modern, updated facilities. I am very pleased to make this announcement today on behalf of our government as part of our continued efforts to make sure that our CAF personnel have the infrastructure they need to operate effectively,” said Fantino.

Garrison Petawawa is a large military base with close to 600 buildings, including 1600 family housing units.

Through this $20 million dollars investment, the garrison will see the modernization and renovation of housing units, repairs to the roadways, as well as improvements to military quarters, to support members and their families.

These investments will drive trade, promote productivity and create jobs in communities like Petawawa. The government estimates that accelerated investments will support the creation of over 10,000 jobs by the end of 2016.

“I am very pleased to join Minister Fantino here today at Garrison Petawawa for this announcement. Funding such as this is important not only to the CAF members who benefit directly from it, but from the community at large, through the boost it gives to the local economy in helping create jobs,” said Cheryl Gallant, member of parliament, Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke.

The federal infrastructure investments announced by Prime Minister Stephen Harper in November 2014 will build and renew infrastructure, creating economic prosperity and growth across Canada.

The Department of National Defence has received $452 million for the repair and upgrade of CAF facilities.
