Vicki L MorrisonWounded Warriors Canada today announced a $170,000 donation to Can Praxis, Canada’s leading post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) equine program, supporting ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members, veterans, and their families.
The donation was made possible as a result of an ongoing partnership between Wounded Warriors Canada and Glenfiddich Distillery.
“Wounded Warriors Canada, with Glenfiddich, is extremely proud to be a national funder of Can Praxis, ensuring no matter where a serving or retired Canadian Armed Forces member resides, the equine program is accessible at no cost to them. To date, our funding has allowed over 80 couples to experience the benefits of the Can Praxis,” said Phil Ralph, national program director, Wounded Warriors Canada.
The Can Praxis program is designed to address the ongoing challenges of relationship conflict and crisis brought on by PTSD and other operational stress injuries (OSI).
Those attending the Can Praxis relationship-communication and conflict-resolution equine program can expect to interact with horses. The behaviour of the horses acts as honest and open feedback around body language, tone of voice, and posture of participants.
Using this feedback, communication concerns are then addressed, to gain new understanding and take-away skills intended to improve interpersonal communication and reduce conflicts within relationships. The organization is managed by licensed and certified facilitators.
“Can Praxis is pleased and honoured to be partnered with a tremendous organization like Wounded Warriors Canada. PTSD and OSI are not regional concerns, nor does it matter the age of the veteran or where they served,” said Steve Critchley, co-founder, Can Praxis. “By working together we can bring even more people through the program free of charge. Wounded Warriors Canada, through the support of Glenfiddich, makes this possible as a result of this substantial funding.”
Steve Doyle, country manager of William Grant & Sons, owners of Glenfiddich Distillery, joined members from Wounded Warriors Canada and Can Praxis for the funding announcement.
He commented on how honoured William Grant & Sons are to work with Wounded Warriors Canada. As a fifth-generation family-run business, the owners of the Glenfiddich Distillery are aware of the important role strong, supportive families play in an individual’s success and well-being. Since 2012, Glenfiddich has donated over $300,000 to Wounded Warriors Canada.
