Several of the Canadian Armed Forces’ (CAF) versatile and powerful CH-146 Griffon helicopters arrive in Latvia in our favourite photo of the week.
According to the military, the Griffons play a crucial role in showcasing the Canadian government’s commitment to NATO’s Multinational Brigade in Latvia. Over 1,600 CAF personnel are deployed to Latvia under Operation REASSURANCE, based out of Camp Adazi. The image was shared on July 28. 2024.
The battlegroup in Latvia is led by the CAF. It is one of eight multinational battle groups in Eastern and Central Europe that are part of the largest reinforcement of NATO collective defence in a generation.
The battlegroup consists of “artillery, mechanized infantry, combat support, combat service support, and electronic warfare components,” according to the military. Contributions come from ten countries.
