Another bus carrying recent graduates of the Armed Forces of Ukraine training courses rolls out of a training base in our favourite photo of the week.
Shot on June 26, 2024, Canadian Armed Forces members salute the graduates as they return to Ukraine. Since the start of Operation UNIFIER in 2015, Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) have trained more than 40,000 Ukrainian soldiers.
Operation UNIFIER took on a more significant turn after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Because of the war, the training of Ukrainian soldiers shifted from Ukraine to the United Kingdom. The recruit training element of Operation UNIFIER trains soldiers on “essential soldiering skills including weapons handling, battlefield first aid, fieldcraft, patrol tactics, and the Law of Armed Conflict,” according to the CAF.
