Canadian Forces Housing Differential (CFHD) and Provisional Post-Living Differential (PPLD) Update

In a recent announcement, the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) unveiled updates to the Canadian Forces Housing Differential (CFHD) and Provisional Post Living Differential (PPLD) rates.

The adjustments, effective July 1, 2024, are part of the CAF’s commitment to maintaining fair compensation for its members.

The updates, detailed in references provided by the CAF, address economic changes and ensure that the majority of members are not adversely affected by pay level adjustments

New Locations Added

Among the notable changes are the addition of the following locations:

  • Chatham, ON,
  • Peterborough, ON,
  • Sarnia, ON, and
  • Timmins, ON.

The CANFORGEN noted the additional locations reflect the evolving housing needs of CAF personnel across the country.

PPLD Rates Adjusted

On July 1, 2024, entitled members will see PPLD rates adjusted to 50 per cent of the PLD rate a member was entitled to on June 30, 2023.

CANFORGEN 053/24 noted it is crucial for members to note that changes in CFHD rates may impact PPLD calculations, as outlined in reference documents. However, these adjustments will be automatic, requiring no action from affected members.

“Note that pay levels under Ref B (CBI 205.453 Canadian Forces Housing Differential (CFHD)) have also been amended. This is to ensure that following the economic increase, the majority of members will not be removed from their pay level, which could have caused disentitlement,” stated the CANFORGEN.

To access the new rates and ensure compliance with the updated policies, members are encouraged to visit the CFHD website and review Compensation and Benefits Instruction (CBI) 205.

The CAF remains open to feedback regarding the CFHD policy adjustments. Members are encouraged to utilize the CFHD Feedback Form available on the official website here to provide input and suggestions.
