New requirement regarding reporting an issue affecting CAF member’s physical or mental health
Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members are now required to “report, document and advise the chain of command, whether deployed or in garrison, of any incident which results, or may result in an injury, disease or illness. Filling the report provides the basis and substantiation for much of the pension awards and compensation benefits from Veterans Affairs Canada. Under the newly renamed Report of Injury, Disease or Illness, the final authority will now rest with the Chief of Military Personnel instead of the Director Casualty Support Management.
Additionally, under the revamped rule, Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members are required to “report, document and advise the chain of command, whether deployed or in garrison, of any incident which results, or may result in an injury, disease or illness that may impact the member’s physical and/or mental health,” according to CANFORGEN 134/23.
The CANFORGEN noted filling the report provides the basis and substantiation for much of the pension awards and compensation benefits from Veterans Affairs Canada.
