Life After The Uniform
Perfect People Are No Fun!
This week the focus of the Simple Abundance journey remains in the home, creating order. I have found that I’m in the mood lately to do spring-cleaning and sort through the mess/piles/chaos that has accumulated over the winter. Unfortunately I’ve lacked the time this week and I find that it’s stressing me out … all these projects I want to get to and can’t. That’s why the May 15th message of “Progress, Not Perfection” couldn’t have come at a better time. Breathe in … breathe out … do what you can. I’m reminded of a woman I knew once who was so focused on creating the perfect-looking life (through her home, clothes and children) that her husband and children lived in misery, constantly disappointing her with their imperfections. There’s nothing simple or abundant about that!
I also saw an interesting connection with the story of Gloria Steinem. She neglected her domestic life due to career commitments. How many of us have known someone who never got around to hanging pictures for the two years they were posted somewhere? Or never bothered to plant a flower bed because it wasn’t really their house? Or refused to buy anything nice because it could get broken in a move? What a shame … life is way to short to put everything on hold.
And now, back to the spring-cleaning … until next week!
