The question remains, is Ambrosia served with a meal, or is it a dessert? Made with fresh and canned fruit, marshmallows, yogurt, coconut, and pecans – indeed, it is served with a meal. Ambrosia is undoubtedly a childhood favourite for many people.

Ingredients

Scale

1 can ( 540ml |19 ounces) pineapple chunks in juice*

1 can (284 ml | 10 ounces) mandarin orange segments in syrup

1 firm, large banana peeled, sliced

1 ½ cups grapes

1 cup miniature white marshmallows

1 cup flaked coconut

½ cup pecan halves or coarsely chopped nuts (optional)

1 cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt

1 tablespoon brown sugar

Instructions

Step 1: Drain pineapple and orange segments.
Step 2: In a large bowl, combine pineapple, orange segments, banana, grapes, marshmallows, coconut, and nuts.
Step 3: In a bowl, combine sour cream and brown sugar
Step 4: Combine sour cream and brown sugar mixture with the fruit in the bowl.
Step 5: Refrigerate, covered, for 1 hour or overnight.

Notes

FYI: 19 ounces roughly equal to 2 ½ cups – pineapple with juice. You can find 19 ounces No-Name brand at Loblaws/Superstore and their affiliates.
