New Regulations Regarding Updating Beneficiary Information on Posting
According to new Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) regulations, Regular Force members no longer have to complete forms to name a beneficiary on arrival at a new posting.
If there is a change in address of a named beneficiary, members are now encouraged to contact the Government of Canada Pension Centre to update the information instead of necessarily filling the CF-FC 2197 Form.
According to CANFORGEN 110/22 CMP 056/22, all members of the Regular Force and Reservists on Class C service are participants in the Supplementary Death Benefit (SDB) Plan set out under Part II of the Canadian Forces SuperAnnuation Act (CFSA).
The CANFORGEN states, “reservists are reminded that their coverage under the SDB Plan ends at the end of the month in which their Class C service ends and a new CF-FC 2196 Form must be completed at the commencement of each new period of Class C service in order for the named beneficiary to be valid under the provisions of the CFSA.”
Contact the Government of Canada Pension Centre at 1-800-267-0325 if you have questions related to your participation in the SDB plan or with respect to your pension benefits under CFSA.
