Free virtual career conference with Altis Recruitment to help military spouses and veterans find a job
The Military Family Resource Centre of the National Capital Region (MFRC-NCR) is organizing a free virtual conference the week of September 22 to 25, 2020, in partnership with Altis Recruitment to help military spouses find a job after a posting or to re-enter the workforce.
“After many moves and postings, it can sometimes be difficult to find work, to understand the job market in the city you are coming to, or to re-enter the job market after a few years of caring for your family. This conference seemed to us to be an appropriate venue to meet this objective of helping military spouses find employment,” says Alice Danguy, Employment and Education Services Coordinator Military Family Resource Centre – National Capital Region.
Altis Recruitment approached the MFRC-NCR to organize an event in partnership. The organization noted their values are aligned and committed to helping military spouses and community members find jobs that are meaningful.
Dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Canadian Armed Forces families, the MFRC-NCR provides unique services tailored to the Canadian Forces community.
Altis Recruitment is one of Canada’s largest independent staffing firms. Every year, their team fills more than 8,500 temporary, contract, and permanent positions nationwide.
It is the first time they are doing a Conference of this nature online. The choice to do it virtually was clear in regard to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Danguy says it is also due to the MFRC-NCR’s large demographic and service area.
Over the span of four days, they’re offering seven customized sessions that span from creating a resume, preparing for an interview, how to look for a job, and current labour market trends.
“We have tried to cover all aspects of the job search process from start to finish in order to provide comprehensive training,” says Danguy.
She continued, “The goal of the conference is to help military spouses to find a job and to enter or re-enter the workforce. Our sessions will cover all of the necessary knowledge to help the job search be as easy as possible.”
Danguy says it is a pleasure to work with Altis Recruitment, and it’s a partnership that they look forward to growing.
“We are pleased to take advantage of their knowledge of the labour market and to bring them our knowledge of the lives of military families, she added.

“It is not always easy for our family members to attend in-person programs, as they are spread across the region from Maniwaki to Brockville, Cornwall to Arnprior. Holding this virtually is an opportunity to reach more families across the NCR and even families from all across Canada,” Danguy explained.
The difficulty in finding work for military spouses depends on many factors. These factors include: province, certification, language spoken, experience, and postings.
“It is a challenge that we have identified, and we are doing our best to help military spouses through transitions and life changes,” stated Danguy.
The Conference is for military spouses, as well as, veterans and military in the process of releasing. It’s open to military families worldwide.
