Garrison Set to Host Family Day Sept. 7

To welcome their newest extended military family members, Garrison Petawawa is hosting Garrison Family Day on Sept. 7.

The family day not only serves to welcome new Department of National Defence and Canadian Armed Forces families, but is also open to all members of the community to exhibit the capabilities of Personnel Support Program, the Petawawa Military Family Resource Centre, and the various units on base.

“Once again, I have the privilege of inviting members of the Garrison and members of the community to come and celebrate Garrison Family Day. Over the years, I have been reminded of the importance of our families and communities. They provide unparalleled strength and support to our military members and civilian personnel. Fostering a positive relationship with our families and communities is key, and Garrison Family Day is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together and celebrate our accomplishments,” said Col. Louis Laplante, Commander 4th Canadian Division Support Group.

At the event, families can enjoy viewing static military displays, live entertainment, barbecue, and the Colour Run. The Colour Run is an annual base tradition that splashes the races’ runners with multicoloured paints.

“Garrison Family Day is a great get-together that allows newly posted members, their families, and the local community to meet and socialize. It is a must-attend summer event filled with entertainment and activities. It offers the opportunity to learn about the roles and capabilities of the different units on base and allows for everyone to mingle. It is a well-deserved day for everyone involved,” said CWO Tom Verner, Formation Sergeant Major 4th Canadian Division Support Group.

Garrison Family Day will be held on Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dundonald Hall sports field. Admission is free.
