Government of Canada announces $77.8 million service contract for Royal Canadian Navy fleet

Earlier to day Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan, Karen McCrimmon, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, announced the award of a service contract to BMT Canada Ltd. as part of this commitment, today.

Under this contract, BMT Canada Ltd. will provide engineering, logistics, management, and support services to the Royal Canadian Navy’s fleet for an initial value of $77.8 million for five years.

BMT will have two five year option renewals after the original contract completion and will support up to 263 jobs for the duration of the contract.

“This defence contract will sustain employment in Ottawa and on both coasts for up to 15 years. It’s great news for the Canadian maritime sector and multiple local communities that will benefit from this long-term investment,” said Karen McCrimmon, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness in a press release. 

This service contract will support the RCN’s current and future fleet in instances where DND does not have the capacity to perform all of this work in-house. 

It will also assist the RCN in meeting their mandate of continually adapting to emerging threats in order to accomplish its missions.

BMT Canada Ltd. is contracted to provide a wide variety of work including project management, policy and standards development, engineering and logistics services for the design, acquisition, and sustainment of marine vessels and equipment

This contract is one of the first to have been awarded through an improved contract approval process, resulting in accelerated implementation.

This support contract increases our flexibility to provide essential services to our Royal Canadian Navy fleet, increasing its flexibility to fulfill its missions and deploy on short notice,” stated Minister of National Defence Harjit S. Sajjan in a press release.
