Military Family Appreciation Day coming this fall
A motion to create an annual Military Family Appreciation Day was passed unanimously in the House of Commons on June 19.
“The families of our Canadian Armed Forces members are tremendously important, but often forgotten glue that keeps everything together back home when our brave men and women in uniform are doing their jobs to keep Canadians safe here and around the world. Their fellow Canadians are often unaware of the enormous sacrifices and long separations from loved ones that these families endure,” Rick Ekstein, President, Together We Stand Foundation.
The foundation has been working closely with the federal government to make the third Friday in September a day to honour and show appreciation to the sacrifices made by military families.
“The Together We Stand Foundation was created to recognize, thank and honour patriotic military families, and thanks Members of Parliament Gen. Andrew Leslie (Ret’d), the Hon. Ed Fast, Murray Rankin for their support and to Member of Parliament Phil McColeman who brought forward our motion designating the third Friday of September of each year as Military Family Appreciation Day,” says Ekstein.
The first designated Military Family Appreciation Day will be Friday, September 20, 2019.
