Calling all novice and professional photographers for CAF Imagery Contest
The 52nd annual CAF Imagery Contest has started.
As of June 15, until September 1, 2019, both novice and professional photographers and videographers are invited to submit up to eight photographs or videos to the contest.
According to the contest website the contest focuses on any aspect of military life, “The Annual CAF Imagery Contest celebrates the talented photographers and videographers that capture life in CAF communities from coast to coast,” states the CAF Imagery Contest.
The contest started in 1968, and since 1992 it has been organized by CAF Imaging Systems Program Management and Morale and Welfare Services. The contest was formerly called the Canadian Armed Forces Photography Contest. However, the title was changed to reflect the importance of video.
“Photographs and Videos share our story with Canadians; they connect us to operations and our military life and are a reflection of our lived experience,” said Sean N. Cantelon, the CEO of Morale and Welfare Services.
There have been approximately 20,000 photos submitted since 1999, 2008 was the first year they went digital, and 2012 marked the first year that submissions could be made online.
In 2018, they received 1,418 photos from 259 participates, as well as 72 videos from 44 participants.
There are eight categories to which contestants can contribute. They include military life, people, animals, altered images, environment, macro photography, sports, and an open category.
The open category is for any photo that does not fit in the other categories listed.
In order to enter as a novice, you must not be a professional photographer, nor been awarded the Best in Show or Photographer of the Year in any previous CAF/DND photo contest.
To enter in the advanced category, you must be a professional photographer, have advanced level skills, or have been awarded Best in Show or Photographer of the Year in any previous CAF/DND photo contest.
All submissions must be in digital files, and contestants must have a CF One card. The winners will be presented their awards at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa.
