Cadets fundraising to visit Gagetown this summer
Local cadets in Orangeville, Ontario are getting ready to head to CFB Gagetown in June.
This is the first time in 15 years that the corp has planned a large year-end trip, and are hoping to bring it back as an annual tradition.
“We chose this as a citizenship tour to an area where the cadets have never been. We decided to choose a location in Canada and Gagetown has an active base, which will teach the cadets about the military and the opportunities that are available to them,” says Elaine Capes, Support Committee Chair. “The corp is planning on expanding our horizons for trips by going to different countries in the future.”
To help offset the costs of travelling to New Brunswick, the cadet corp hosted a Yuk Yuk’s fundraiser on May 11, with comedians, Rob Bebnek and Michael McCreary.
The idea came from attending a local hockey team fundraiser that had also hosted a Yuk Yuk’s Comedy show.
“Our fundraising target to cover expenses is $20,000,” says Capes.
So far the group has raised $5,155.00, and have started a
GoFundMe page to help raise the remaining amount.
“While the cadets are in New Brunswick they will be visiting a variety of museums. The Military Museum, Old Government and Town Hall, watching the changing of the guard, visiting the Bay of Fundy Hopewell Rocks Formation and enjoying some quiet activities at night (i.e., bowling),” says Capes.
