Mishall RehmanA body discovered in the St. Lawrence River last week has tragically been identified as that of missing Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) member Capt. Timothy Bowman.
He was 36 years old.
He was discovered near Milton Island, just east of Kingston, ON and was recovered by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Marine Unit, along with the assistance of the Coast Guard.
Capt. Bowman went missing in late August after which CAF Military Police issued a statement seeking assistance in locating his whereabouts.
Along with local and military police, teams from 1 Wing Headquarters were also working with his family in hopes of Capt. Bowman’s safe return.
“The members of 1 Wing Headquarters and the Tactical Helicopter community are deeply affected by the tragic death of one of our own. Captain Bowman was an enthusiastic airman, colleague, friend, and father who will be sorely missed by both his immediate and military families. He was a professional who was driven to succeed. As an accomplished pilot and athlete with a passion for sailing, he was always ready to provide encouragement and advice to those who asked,” said LCol. Wesley Cunningham, Commanding Officer of 1 Wing Headquarters Kingston.
The Bowman family issued the following statement on behalf of his wife, children, parents, and siblings:
“We were so hopeful that Tim would return home safely. We do not yet fully understand all of the facts surrounding Tim’s death. We are awaiting the results of the OPP investigation. While this period has been very difficult for all of us, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from those near and far.
Tim will be missed dearly by family and friends. We will draw comfort from the many wonderful memories with him.
Thank you to everyone who helped during the time that Tim was missing, and for the efforts made by all those who searched for him.”
An investigation is ongoing by the OPP. No foul play is suspected.
