True Patriot Love Symposium recognized families role on the road to recovery

On September 22 2017, True Patriot Love (TPL) hosted a Multinational Symposium to recognize the role families play in an injured soldier's road to recovery.

Hosted by CTV journalist Kevin Newman, the TPL Symposium covered a wide range of topics surrounding ill and injured soldiers and their families. Some of the topics discussed included what invisible wounds are; what a family’s needs are following a mental injury; the impact of injury on children; developing sciences to address veteran mental health; compassion fatigue; and successful transition for members and their families.

Several nations around the world were represented at this year’s Symposium, held on Sept. 22 in Toronto, including speakers from the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada.

There were a number of high-profile key speakers at this year’s event including  Marjorie Morrison, CEO of PsychArmor Institute and LGen. Charles Lamarre, Commander of Military Personnel Command, represented the military.

Audiences also had the opportunity to hear from many of the Invictus Games competitors and their families.

TPL has hosted multinational symposiums since 2012 to address topics concerning veterans on a global scale.

They have also served as a way to further the well-being of military families by increasing the understanding of the challenges military families face; sharing best practices on an international scale on how to better serve families, and fostering meaningful partnerships that will benefit military families.
