Toys for Tots champaign wraps up for another year

Led by Speaker of the Senate, George J. Furey, senators and staff on Parliament Hill collected a number of presents for the Toys for Tots campaign this holiday season.

On Dec. 15, Senators Diane Bellemare, Patricia Bovey, Yonah Martin, Grant Mitchell, Jim Munson, Victor Oh and Kim Pate helped to load the boxes onto military trucks to be taken to their destination. This year’s donation is being distributed to the St. Joe’s Women’s Centre; Minwaashin Lodge, an Indigenous women’s centre. Some of the toys will also be distributed at the Tewegan Housing for Aboriginal Youth, a home for Indigenous women aged 16 to 29 who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

All the toys collected under the drive will be given to underprivileged children under Toys for Tots, a Canadian charity based on local partnerships between the Canadian Armed Forces, businesses and citizens that provides toys to children who are in need.
